On the Cape May Peninsula in Sothern New Jersey, the former Ponderlodge Golf Club is transforming into a more natural state and is a beloved green space for both wildlife and local residents.
The defunct club was purchased by the Green Acres Program* and is run by NJ Fish and Wildlife with the intent to create and enhance a stopover habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife.
Efforts include reforestation, grassland enhancement as well as a demonstration site for Backyard Habitat improvement. Visitors easily explore the features of this newly wild land on the old paved golf-cart paths, which accommodate a range of physical capabilities.
