3 Top Baby Food Tips

I never bought jarred baby food for either of my children. Three things helped me a lot:

#1 Thermomix: I know this tip is a bit mean because this blender costs over 1,000 bucks, but I am now a fan. Instead, you can just as easily use a blender!

#2 Ice cube tray: Especially if you are still breastfeeding and the porridge is the first complementary food, the portions are often incredibly small. Freezing the porridge in ice cube trays makes it easy to portion later.

#3 Canola oil: Every baby formula should contain some canola oil. It breaks down the fat-soluble vitamins and helps your baby absorb them.

Make your own homemade baby food: Anyone can make “Two Veggies”!

The basic recipe for complementary baby food is

  • 80 g of organic vegetables (e.g. one carrot, zucchini, sweet potato, parsnip or cauliflower)
  • 80 g organic potatoes (e.g. 1 potato)
  • 80 ml water
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil

Make sure your vegetables are certified organic and, if possible, from your area. (Preferably from your own garden, as many of our Green PearlsⓇ partners do).

Instructions: Cook the vegetables for about 10 minutes until soft (works in the Thermomix insert or in a saucepan), then puree and mix with the oil.
