We’re already in the middle of the Europa League, so admittedly it’s a little late, but staying true to the motto – it’s never too late to become more sustainable! Here are a few tips on how to make the Europa League 23/24, and of course, all other matches, a little bit more sustainable. IMAGE: Julian_Hamburg | Pixabay
#1 Viewing in public or together with your friends
Watching together is not only more social, fun and creates a better atmosphere, it also saves electricity. Fewer TVs means less energy consumption. Logical.
#2 More energy-efficient technology
Of course, you should also make sure you use the most energy-efficient appliances and optimize their settings. Whether it’s a TV or refrigerator for cold beer 😀
#3 Environmentally friendly transport
As radio Deutschlandfunk reported in 2019, most emissions are generated by fans traveling to and from the matches. So whether you’re going to the stadium, visiting friends or going to the pub, leave your car at home and switch to public transport, cycling or your own two feet..
#4 Conscious consumption of fan merchandise for the Europa League 23/24
A scarf or jersey from your favorite team is a must-have for many people. But before buying, make sure it was produced sustainably, using recycled materials, for example. The same applies to other merchandise, of course. And who knows, you might even find a cool second-hand vintage scarf?
#5 Beer and sustainable snacks
A cold beer is part of watching the game, and it has a smaller carbon footprint than many other alcoholic beverages. But even here you can save a little. For example, by drinking organic beer.
Just like beer, snacks are a must when watching football, but the environmental impact of many snacks is rather poor compared to their fat content. So check when buying them – or better yet, make them yourself – as it saves on plastic and is much healthier.
Finally, we wish you and your favorite teams the best of luck in the playoffs and the Round of 16. And if you have any other tips for a more sustainable soccer watching experience, feel free to share them in the comments.
