A tree disc as a decorative object
In our series about cool eco-products from sustainable hotels, today we present the tree disc from the lobby of the Naturhotel Outside. The hiking hotel is located in the middle of the Alps-Nationalpark Hohe Tauern and has the motto ‘In the middle of the outdoors’. Here you can spend your holiday in nature and also find nature in the hotel itself. An ingenious example of this is the tree disc as a wall decoration. The small plaque, which provides information about the year the tree was felled and when it was felled, etc., makes it look like a work of art.
‘The tree disc in the hotel lobby is definitely one of our favourite items in the house,’ says Daniel Ganzer of the host family.
Sustainable natural decoration
With wood as a decorative object, you are bringing something alive into your home. It breathes, it is nature, it exudes warmth and is individual – each piece is unique. To find a tree disc like this, it’s best to contact a carpenter in your area.
You can use tree discs not only as wall decorations but also as cutting boards, coasters, or a base for changing seasonal decorations. To ensure that the product is also sustainable, you should only use wood from sustainably managed forests. You can read more about the relevant seals of approval such as FSC and PEFC (including the criticisms of them) here at ProWildlife.
- Buying: In this case, we recommend that you talk to a carpenter you trust. As an example, we would like to mention the carpenter Otto in Germany. Household products, such as cutting boards made from olive wood discs, can be found, for example, at Avocadostore.
