Pregnancy is a special time, both physically and emotionally. Prenatal yoga helps to gently strengthen the body, reduce stress, and develop a deeper connection with the baby. But while yoga for pregnant women is increasingly in demand, there are surprisingly few options. So why is that? BILD: ⒸKlosterhof – Alpine Hideaway & Spa
Why has it become so popular?
The benefits of prenatal yoga have been scientifically proven (see, for example, a 2022 meta-analysis that summarizes various studies and finds that prenatal yoga leads to an easier birth) (shorter duration, less pain medication). Yoga during pregnancy improves posture, relieves common ailments such as back pain, and promotes mental relaxation. It can also help you prepare for childbirth – both physically and mentally.
Prenatal yoga is designed specifically for pregnant women and focuses on gentle movements, breathing techniques, and relaxation. (Typical poses include Cat Cow, Butterfly Pose, and Malasana). Unlike prenatal gymnastics, the focus is not only on working specific muscle groups, but also on mindfulness.
But why are there so few offers?
Despite its growing popularity (as measured by Google searches), not all yoga studios or hotels offer prenatal yoga. One possible reason is that many teachers do not feel adequately trained to work with pregnant women. It also requires special facilities and programs that go beyond traditional yoga.
Klosterhof – Alpine Hideaway & Spa: Specialist for babymoon and prenatal yoga
Klosterhof – Alpine Hideaway & Spa in Bayrisch Gmain in southern Germany is an exception. Known throughout the DACH region for its babymoon retreats, the hotel offers year-round programs for expectant mothers. What makes this health hotel special is that it combines wellness with medical care, thanks to an integrated medical center.
