Restful sleep in Green Pearls® hotels

Restful sleep in Green Pearls® hotels

In our blog article “Why sleep is so important for our health” we have already explained the three sleep phases and what happens in which sleep phase. Deep, restful sleep is our most important daily regeneration. It protects us from illness and promotes our health.

The regeneration processes described are controlled by a large number of neurotransmitters. Hormones play a special role in this. Especially melatonin, which is also known as the sleep hormone.

If there is a high concentration of melatonin in the blood, it promotes sleep. A deficiency of melatonin, on the other hand, can be a cause disorders. The level of melatonin in the blood is also strongly dependent on daylight. In summer, our body produces less melatonin, while in winter it produces more. This also explains many people’s greater need for sleep in winter.

K. M. Rolle, physician and owner of the OCÉANO Health Spa Hotel in Tenerife recommends: “The ideal bedroom is dark, quiet and relatively cool. Those who have to get up once at night should definitely avoid bright light, as this lowers the level of the sleep hormone melatonin.” Electricity-powered devices such as televisions or computers should by no means remain in standby mode but should be switched off completely. “The electrosmog to which we are exposed on a daily basis affects sleep,” Rolle explains. Even if this environmental pollution in the form of electromagnetic waves is not immediately noticeable, our bodies certainly do notice it. That’s why even the cell phone should be at least three meters away from the head when sleeping.”

Our hoteliers highly value the restful sleep of their guests. In addition to natural materials and a selection of pillows, they also pay attention to purified air and healthy food. Many of these tips can also be easily implemented at home.

Restful sleep by the sea

The material of the bed alone is crucial when it comes to healthy sleep. At the OCÉANO Health Spa Hotel, guests, therefore, sleep in beds made of natural materials: “Our beds are made exclusively of organically grown materials that are actively breathable. And they are ergonomic and adapt individually to each body, stabilizing it while you sleep,” says Rolle. He also advises beds without metal frames, as the material can create an electromagnetic field that has a negative effect on sleep.

Although the body rests at night, internal organs such as the liver run at full speed between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. A light dinner like the one from the healthy OCÉANO kitchen allows the intestines to rest during the night and allows for sustained liver regeneration. Deficiencies in hormones that are necessary for sleep are balanced out and treated in a holistic way by intestinal regeneration, for example during an F. X. Mayr therapy.

From natural mattresses and pillow menus

The hotel rooms at the Schloss Wartegg are equipped with high-quality natural materials and soothing natural mattresses from Hüsler Nest. With a great deal of knowledge about the human anatomy, his knowledge of statics, and his love of nature, Balthasar Hüsler developed the Hüsler Nest. The Hüsler Nest system stands for a healthy, restful sleep in its most natural, yet modern and timeless form. The heart of a Hüsler Nest is the patented Liforma spring element. Not only is it noticeably more comfortable than a conventional bed frame, but it is also much more adaptable. With even pressure distribution and weight-independent adaptation to the human anatomy, your back will also find relaxation and rest from everyday stresses. Due to the interaction of the trimellas and the natural latex strips, the body is optimally supported night after night in any lying position.

Pillow menus are great individual offers that support every guest with healthy sleep. For instance, there is an extra selection of pillows in the SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA in addition to the pillows that are standard in every guest bed. The pillow menu, which offers millet pillows as well as spelt pillows and bolsters, is displayed on the guests’ nightstand. You can order the relevant pillow at the reception and it will be brought to your room. The SCHWARZWALD PANORAMA also uses a special purification system that uses a water vortex to combine dust from the air and thereby purifies the air. Through the vibration, mite excrement, rejected skin particles, and dust are vibrated to the surface where they are vacuumed away. Accordingly, the DELPHIN water vacuum system ensures clean air, which also promotes a night of restful sleep.

Restful sleep and vegan food

Scientists discovered that an all-plant-based diet can definitely have positive effects on restful sleep. A study published in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine found that people who frequently eat meat products tend to experience more intense sleep difficulties than those who eat little to no meat. The study also found that eating too much dairy products can also lead to sleep disorders. The higher the fat content of animal products, the worse the volunteers’ sleep problems were. The fatty food has to be digested during the night and the body has less energy available for regeneration. LA VIMEA Hotel is the first all-vegan hotel in Italy. The hotel embraces the vegan philosophy in all areas, be it food, furnishings, architecture or general lifestyle. For a restful sleep, at LA VIMEA you’ll also find moon-cut solid wood from local larch trees in the rooms, fairtrade organic cotton in the bedding, and biodegradable mattresses from WaterLily. For the most radiation-free sleep possible, Wi-Fi is turned off from 11 p.m. – 6 a.m. and there are no electrical outlets in the head of the beds.
