Pallet upcycling: vertical gardening

Pallet upcycling: vertical gardening

You still need a colorful highlight on your balcony or in the garden? Then look around for an unused pallet. Planted with flowers, these are great eye-catchers! And vertical gardening is very trendy at the moment!

However, there is a bit of work to be done before the pallet offers your flowers a new home:

  • The pallets should be sanded down before planting. Pay particular attention to the back of the pallet, as this will face forward later on.
  • Then screw three boards to the bottom of each of the three dividers to create three flower boxes.
  • With a suitable colored or transparent glaze, you can protect your new flower bed from moisture.
  • Line the boxes with weed fleece or pond liner. If the material is impermeable, make a few holes in the foil so that the water can run off. If you use ready-made flower boxes, which are now available in the appropriate size, you do not need to use foil.
  • Your plants just need soil, and you’re ready to go. Ideally, you start with a small layer of gravel.
  • Now you can plant the three flower boxes with herbs or flowers as you like.

For those who are not that talented at handicrafts: You can also simply sand and glaze the pallet. Equipped with a few hanging pots, you can grow flowers or herbs.
