3 practical tips to save water

Water is a limited resource and saving it should be part of all our lives. Tips to save water are becoming more and more important! Why?

Counter question: Have you ever heard of hunger stones? I certainly hadn’t until this summer. No wonder: they only appear when the water level of rivers drops below a certain level. Some of the stones were carved centuries ago with warnings and reminders of famines.

This year, some have appeared again, especially in the Rhine and the Elbe. Other rivers have even dried up, as have streams and lakes. Trees are already changing color and shedding their leaves, and the forest floor is hard and dried up.

Our world is increasingly drying out. But we can help prevent it from getting that far! That’s why we have three tips for saving water for you that you can immediately integrate into your everyday life.

Our tips to save water in your daily life:

Tip 1: Collect water

We all know it: we wash vegetables or fruit, let the shower water run off until it gets warm or rinse a little dirt off our hands. We can easily collect this water with bowls and use it for watering flowers, for example. Of course, only if there is no soap or similar involved.

Tip 2: Use rain water

Admittedly, in an apartment without a balcony this tip will be difficult to implement, but maybe you can find a way to collect rainwater on the windowsill as well. On the balcony or terrace, you can easily place buckets or bowls and collect the rainwater. You can also install a rain gutter and direct it to a bucket or barrel.

Tip 3: Simply turn off

Observe yourself: Where do you leave the faucet running even though it’s unnecessary? I assume you all turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth, right? But what about while washing your hair? Or soaping up in the shower? Or doing stuff in the kitchen? If we are more aware of how we use water as a resource, then we will notice little adjusting screws that we can use to regulate our water consumption all by ourselves.
