European Outdoor Film Tour – A short review

European Outdoor Film Tour – A short review

Almost two weeks ago the European Outdoor Film Tour stopped in my hometown and as an outdoor fan it was clear that I was there. Last year it didn’t work out due to scheduling reasons, so I was looking forward to it even more. And I can tell you one thing in advance: the excitement was justified.

But let’s start from the beginning.

What is the EOFT?

The European Outdoor Film Tour, or EOFT for short, is THE film festival for all outdoor fans. It has been touring Europe every year since 2001 and shows the most exciting, breathtaking and touching stories that filmmakers have captured in their cameras.

Now that was a lot of superlatives, but they are really justified!

Because:

The films of the EOFT 2022.

Eight films were shown this year. From action-packed drone rides accompanying paragliders or skiers, to powerful and empowering stories of impressive people plunging into raging rivers, climbing mountains or running from Mexico to Canada in record time, to two skiers sailing to Spitsbergen only to find that there is hardly any skiable snow.

Thoughts and discussions

All of the films were thought-provoking. Be it because of the statements of the protagonists, or because of the pictures presented, which showed at least to me once again how absolutely worth protecting, impressive and incredibly huge our world is. Also in the figurative sense. But especially the last film I had mentioned above, “Skisick” by Nikolai Schirmer, without meaning to, made our impact on the world quite blatantly clear. Melting snow, T-shirts instead of winter jackets, and jogging along the ocean’s edge instead of speeding downhill. Without raising the finger or the intention to show man-made climate change and its effects, the film does it.

My summary to the EOFT

Absolutely recommendable. Go see it! Every single film is unique and it was hard to make a decision when voting at the end.
