Pretty name, seductive sun-yellow appearance and spicy taste. In addition, all the power of nature is hidden in the originally traditional Indian healing drink Golden Milk, which can support your immune system in the cold season.
Golden Milk instead of prescription
During a never-ending series of colds and infections a few years ago, I complained to my general practitioner (and alternative practitioner). Contrary to expectations, I left the office not with a prescription for the pharmacy, but a shopping list for the health food store or market. Turmeric, ginger, honey, Ceylon cinnamon. Natural and high quality ingredients without pesticides. Quite important be this especially when buying Ceylon cinnamon! Still a bit skeptical I bought these things and started at home.
What can I say? Since that day, Golden Milk has been an absolute must in my family as soon as someone shows the first signs of cold symptoms. Friends and other relatives have of course been infected =) And so I also withhold the recipe from you no longer. Have fun making and enjoying! But most of all: come strengthened through the winter and let us know if the healing drink is just as valuable a companion for you during the cold season.
Ingredients for the Golden Milk:
- Ginger root
- Turmeric (powder or root)
- Ceylon cinnamon
- Honey
- Milk of your choice
Preparation:
Wash a thumb-sized piece of ginger and cut it into small pieces. Puree finely with about 100 ml of hot water in a blender and pour the liquid through a fine sieve and collect it (to avoid annoying ginger fibers in the drink). Heat 100 ml of milk and add it to a cup with the ginger decoction. If you want to use a turmeric root, I strongly advise you to wear gloves, because the juice that comes out of the root stains strongly and does not wash out well (this also applies to cutting boards and carpet pad!). Turmeric is a little more convenient to use as a powder. Depending on your taste, take half a teaspoon to a teaspoon, the same amount applies to the cinnamon. Finally, you can sweeten with honey, again to your liking.
By the way: You can also enjoy Golden Milk as a preventive measure and as a regular energy kick in the morning or as an immune booster in the evening. If you want to learn more about the effects of the individual ingredients, here is an interesting article from a holistic medical perspective. (german only)
